peter david notably never received royalties for the prominent use of his character, spider-man 2099, in the recent movie across the spider-verse. he worked prolifically for both major comics publishers, creating and revitalizing so many popular characters, and was paid very little for it; he struggled with medical debt throughout the final years of his life. the gofundme that was started to crowdfund for his medical expenses is still up, and his family could use some support right now.
#it speaks!#not phrased well bc i just woke up. terrible industry; all love to his family.#peter david

So very sad to hear Peter David passed away. He wrote many great, long runs exploring the various facets of the characters he was given and helped define or redefine them.

Very sad to hear about the loss of one of my favorite comics writers. Peter David was the main writer for Young Justice (1998), the silly, heartfelt, hilarious series that made me fall in love with superhero comics. He also helped create Anita Fite aka Empress, one of my favorite lesser-known heroes.
#peter david#young justice#anita fite#such a huge loss#I owe a lot of my sense of humor to PAD#and might never have gotten so into DC fandom if I hadn’t seen so many funny scans of YJ98 panels way back in the day#really disheartening to hear how tough his last few years were

Release Day!
This novel is close to Peter and me. It was a what if that lead to a lot of research to talks about the plot
Peter tried to, or rather his excellent literary agent, sell this the conventional way but no one would bite
We worked too hard not to put it on a shelf unread so we went with the Crazy 8 Press, who has a bunch of cool authors and books.
He had a number of books there.
Please check it out

Boosting, the author from YJ 98 needs help. https://www.reddit.com/r/youngjustice/comments/1jaj2bf/peter_david_writer_of_most_of_the_first_fiftyfive/
Peter David had a campaign that ended a while ago, and it saddens me that it has restarted and that he and his wife are struggling so much. Sadly he is not the only comic writer suffering in poverty in their elder years.
Here is the NEW GoFundMe for Peter David.
Please help him out if you can.
And if you are also able to, consider helping William Messner-Loebs, The Flash (1987) & Impulse (1995) writer. His GoFundMe has stalled a lot.
It is sickening that they both have contributed so much to the comic industry only to not earn a single penny from the success they started.

RIP Peter David (Sep 23rd 1956 - May 24th 2025)
After a long battle with illness its been reported that Peter David has passed away at the age of 68.
Link

Peter David was a prolific writer well known for revolutionizing Hulk in the 90's, establishing the chatacters abusive childhood as the root cause of his split persona, he revitalized Aquaman in the 90's by turning him into the King Arthur of the seas and also wrote the comedic Young Justice series of the late 90's and early 00's. The series served as both an entry point for new young readers whilst also satirizing many comic book cliches of the time.
He also co created Spider-Man 2099 aka Miguel O'Hara who made his debut in 'In to The Spider-Verse' with a bigger role in 'Across The Spider-Verse'.
Lesser known but still important work he did includes his novelization of Batman Forever, exploring some of the darker elements that were removed from the final cut in order to make the movie more merchandise friendly. He also wrote the Post Crisis origin of the Justice League of America, establishing Canary as a founding member thereby setting the stage for Alan Brennert's Secret Origins 50 retelling of the characters origin and Mark Waid's fantastic JLA: Year One.
This is just a small sampling of the many, many works done by Peter David. Suffice to say that his passing is a huge loss to the industry.
He will be missed.
My condolences to his family and loved ones.
